Outdooring | 8 trends for the summer!
Your backyard—big or small—is the perfect place to soak in the pleasures of summer! See what’s trending to create a welcoming outdoor oasis.
1. Colours
2021 is all about soft, relaxing colours. After such a stressful year, how about a sweet, restful summer! Sunshine yellow, coral, terracotta or sage green blend wonderfully with neutral tones like beige, grey and ecru, and natural materials like bamboo and rattan.
2. Pots of all shapes and sizes
Hanging pots, standing pots, cachepots, vases, planters, boxes… Plant containers are all the rage! They liven up your gardens, patios and balconies, and come in every shape, size, colour and material, including wood, plastic, metal and terracotta.
3. Lighting
New technologies in lighting allow us to create an ambiance perfectly adapted to every area of the yard and balcony. Lights are a must to create the mood you’re looking for, whether for stretching out evenings with friends, reading before bedtime or highlighting your landscaping. Be it festive or calming, find the set-up that’s right for you!
4. Comfort
With the growing popularity of outdooring, people are seeking to make their outdoor spaces just as beautiful and welcoming as inside their home.
Long chairs, hammocks, hanging chairs, poofs and comfy sofas are great choices. You can also add coffee tables, carpets and cushions to put the finishing touches on your outdoor haven.
5. Outdoor kitchens
Our summers here in Quebec are quite short. All the more reason to enjoy them to the fullest! Outdoor kitchen set-ups are gaining in popularity as a way of taking outdoor dining and fun to the next level. From sophisticated BBQs to fully equipped kitchens, wood-fired pizza ovens to outdoor bars. The sky’s the limit!
6. Pools
Pools are yet another home commodity that has come into the spotlight as a result of lockdown and restrictions over the past year! While some models represent a significant investment involving work, other smaller models can easily be added to a backyard. After all, having a pool is like a vacation in your own backyard!
7. Green walls
If you live in the city, green walls are your greatest ally! Not only does their greenery look beautiful, they also help reduce noise, provide thermal insulation and act as an attractive screen for relaxation and privacy. You can even use them to grow herbs and lettuce! And to make an even greater impact, add some lights to make your evenings extra magical.
8. Gardening made simple
We love greenery, nature and flowers, but we’re not so crazy about spending hours on our knees digging in dirt. With that in mind, let’s turn to gardening, 2021 style! Choose plants that are easy to care for and resistant.
The season’s favourites include succulents, grasses, ground covers and climbers. Make sure to pick plants adapted to your location.
